who's my photographer
I'm Savannah Rivera, the owner and photographer for Girasoles Photography. I am a former high school Spanish teacher-turned-photographer. I loved working with students so much and truly felt like I had an impact and could really connect with them. While I love my students, teaching just wasn't for me. My first year of teaching I was working on graduate school, so I can sympathize with students about heavy workloads and busy lives. Before leaving in 2022, I founded Girasoles Photography.
I started dabbling in photography in 2018 when I had planned a trip abroad and wanted to learn to take pictures. My beginner camera and I took on Latin America and captured some cool photos in the process. I quickly learned that I gravitate more towards portraiture and working with people. At this time, however, I was only beginning my journey as a photographer.
As I became more interested in photography, I bought a professional camera and focused more on composition. I decided to officially start my photography business in March 2022. I decided on the name "Girasoles Photography" because girasoles means sunflowers in Spanish, my second language. Sunflowers have been a big part of my life and identity because they bring me joy!
Outside of photography, I like to dance salsa and bachata, do fun, creative sessions (check the blog), and watch stand-up comedies or anime with my husband and my pup!
