Oh my goodness! Look at that adorable baby! I had the pleasure of doing this sweet thing’s cake smash! Alex, Karina’s mom, and I met a few years ago when I did a photoshoot with her friend. She is the sweetest person ever. She really wanted to do a cake smash for Karina’s first birthday and a family session, so we set a date and time and made it happen. It was my first cake smash session, and I was a little nervous, but it was truly a wonderful experience.

The Family Session
Alex wanted to do the cake smash, but she also wanted a family session with Karina and the baby’s dad. We decided to do the family session first, and the cake smash second so Karina wasn’t messy for the family photos. Look at that beautiful family! We had a lot of fun and worked the poses around what Karina wanted to do – ‘cause, you know, babies.

Let's smash that cake!
When it finally came time for the cake smash portion, Alex changed Karina, and we were ready to roll! Karina was fascinated by the cake that Alex’s cousin made. It was a beautiful cake with rainbow frosting. It was almost as if Karina didn’t want to ruin the cake and it took some time for her to begin to touch it. At one point, Zedekiah, the baby’s dad, pushed her hands into the cake to show her what to do. She started to paint the backdrop with the frosting, which was adorable

I love babies!
After a bit, the baby had had enough. She was starting to cry, and it was clear that she was done. That was totally fine since we had already gotten a bunch of awesome and adorable photos! After these past few family sessions with very young kids, I realized I love working with the little ones. Watching them explore and take photos, capturing their spirit and energy, is so fun. I look forward to more family sessions, cake smashes, and other sessions involving kiddos. And if you want to see more photos from this session, check out the highlights of their gallery below!
