I recently discovered this amazing location in Auburn, NH, when a client recommended it for our family session! Now, it is my go-to location when people want to take photos outside, but aren’t sure where. There are lots of reasons I love this location; read on to learn more!
About the Center
The center’s official title is “NH Aubudon Massabesic Center,” and it is located in Auburn, NH. The wildlife sanctuary operates in three centers and manages 40 sanctuaries. The center itself is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it has an Animal Room, education displays, and a Nature Shop! The trails and gardens are open from dusk to dawn. Their mission is to protect New Hampshire’s natural environment for wildlife and for people.
Convenience
The Auburn, NH, location is very easy to get to! It is essentially off a main road and is almost in Manchester, NH. Once you arrive, the signage is great, and they have their own parking lot. I have mostly only taken photos in the gardens to the right of the center itself, but they also have clearly marked trails that lead to Massabesic Lake! The gardens are very accessible, and nearly anyone can take advantage of the space to find beautiful backdrops for photos.
Diversity of Backdrops
As mentioned, there are a lot of spaces to take photos, and each will give you a different scenery. The gardens have a cute trellis that is fun to use in photos as it creates a frame around the subject. There is also a spot where I love to take sitting photos because it has a nice hill behind it that covers the houses behind the hill. Lastly, in the garden area, there is a small field where the backdrop is tall grasses. You can often see bunnies running around! If you’re interested in taking photos on the trails, it is a short walk over to the left side of the center where the trails begin. When there is no one around, the beginning section of the trails makes for some cool dynamic photos! This location offers plenty of different backdrops!
What Sessions Can Use This Location?
Almost any type of portrait session can be done at the Massabesic Center! This is an excellent choice, from family photos to senior portraits. The only types of sessions I would discourage from using the space is anything that will make a mess - like a cake smash - for the preservation of the animals and the center. But don’t worry, if you’re looking for a field-like spot for a messy session, there are plenty of other options!
