Many people feel nervous in front of the camera, but as a professional photographer, my goal is to ensure you feel comfortable, confident, and empowered during your session. Whether it's your first time or you're a bit camera-shy, there are several ways to calm your nerves before and during the shoot. In this blog, I’ll share my best tips on how to feel relaxed and confident for your photo session.

1. Do Your Homework Before Booking

Before scheduling your photo session, take some time to explore my photography portfolio. This will help you familiarize yourself with my style and ensure it aligns with your vision. A crucial part of the process is reviewing the contract, which confirms that your photos will be edited in a style similar to what you see in the portfolio. This way, you can feel confident in your choice, knowing you're getting exactly what you expect.

2. Prepare What You Can for the Session

Preparation is key to reducing anxiety. As part of my process, I send out client surveys to understand your vision and preferences. This allows me to handle most of the preparations on my end, but here are a few things you can do:

  • Pick Your Outfit in Advance: Select clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident. If you feel good in what you’re wearing, it will reflect in the photos.
  • Choose Props Wisely: If you plan to bring any props, have them ready beforehand to avoid last-minute stress.

Comfortable clothing and thoughtful props can significantly reduce the nervousness you may feel during the session. Remember, the camera picks up on everything!

3. Get to Know Your Photographer

(That’s Me!)

One of the best ways to ease your nerves is by getting to know your photographer. I’m here to support you every step of the way, and I encourage clients to reach out before the session. Building trust will make the session feel more natural and relaxed. When we’re comfortable with each other, it’s easier for you to let go of any anxiety and enjoy the experience.

4. Practice Deep Breathing to Stay Relaxed

On the day of the session, it’s normal to feel a little nervous. If you find yourself feeling anxious, try taking some deep breaths. Simple breathing exercises can help you stay grounded and in the moment. If you need guidance, I can recommend some helpful deep-breathing tutorials on YouTube that will calm your nerves before and during the session.

5. Leave Posing and Prompting to Me

Worried about posing? Don’t be! I’ve got you covered. Based on the information you provide in the pre-session survey, I’ll guide you through poses and prompts that highlight your best features and meet your goals. You won’t need to worry about how to stand or what to do—I’ll take care of it, so you can just focus on enjoying the session.
