When my friend, Sade, reached out to book a photo session with me for her family, I was ecstatic. I have only done a handful of family sessions and was looking forward to doing this photo session for her family. Sade and I met in college. We were both Spanish and Education majors. She and I clicked when we met and have been friends ever since!

Sade and her husband, Travis, were around when Andres and I met. We went to their wedding together, and they will be at our “celebration.” Sade and Travis had baby Owen in September 2023. Since I have been recovering from my illness, I didn’t get to meet him until our family session! I was really excited to see Sade, Travis, and little Owen and capture their sweet family.

Sade and I had fun making plans for the photo session! She sent me outfit ideas, and we collaborated on a day, time, and location for the session. We watched the weather to avoid the rain. New England weather can be a bit unpredictable, but I knew we could make it work!

I was a little nervous about taking photos of a baby since they can be a little unpredictable. I sent Sade a “Final Email” a few days before the photo session, as I do for all sessions. This email explains directions to the location and where we will meet. I also include a few reminders, many of which are about how to get kids to cooperate. One of the reminders is to bring a bribe for the kiddos so they will look at the camera and smile for photos! Sade did not disappoint! She brought a little orangutan puppet to get Owen to look at the camera, which worked beautifully. Bribes are important if you have little ones and you want to do a family session! It can be a toy, candy, a favorite snack, or anything you know will make your kiddos have fun and smile for the camera!

Owen behaved so well. It was a little chilly, so we took breaks to get him a blanket to warm him up. He didn’t cry once in the hour+ that we were there. He was smiling and laughing for the majority of the photo session.

I recently bought a portable “dressing room,” which I brought with me so they could change comfortably. Sade and Travis used it with no problem, which was surprising since Travis is so tall. It was a really cool purchase, and I will definitely use it for any photo session where someone plans to change.

I absolutely love how these photos came out! Thank you, Sade, Travis, and Owen, for an amazing photo session! I can’t wait to work with your family again! Check out some highlights below!
