Mini-sessions is a phrase that is thrown around a lot in the photography world. Booking a mini-session has so many benefits, but many people wonder what it actually is. Let’s break down what mini-sessions are and some other FAQs about them!

What are mini-sessions?
Unlike their full-session counterparts, mini-sessions are short, fun, and affordable. They are not just smaller versions of full sessions but their own category of photo sessions. These unique sessions, usually between 10-15 minutes long, are held at a designated location. They are a special deal that a photographer will offer a couple of times a year when a special occasion happens. For example, they may do holiday card mini-sessions in late fall or, as I am doing this year, take advantage of a week-long sunflower festival (keep an eye out for more details!) Mini sessions are a super fun way to make some memories at a discounted price.

why do they cost what they cost?
Mini-sessions are not just about taking a picture and being done. A lot of work and skill goes into making professional quality photos. Before the mini-session, your photographer is scouting locations, marketing the mini-sessions, and preparing for all the poses and prompts. Then, at the mini-session, they guide you through poses and prompts, make sure they take photos at the best spots where you have a nice backdrop, and, of course, take the photos. After the mini-session, the photographer has to go through the hundreds, if not thousands, of photos taken and then edit the ones that made the cut. This is a lot of work and doesn’t even include the equipment and software used to take and edit the photos! If you want quality photos, you have to invest in them!

Why should I book a mini-session?
There are so many reasons to book a mini-session! I mentioned above that they are often for special occasions or specific purposes. This is a great way to take advantage of a lower price and still be able to make lasting memories with your loved ones! They are less expensive than full sessions, so they are more affordable. If you have little ones who can’t be still or cooperate for a more extended period, mini-sessions are a great way to capture those memories with less tears and frustration. Mini-sessions are also a great way to try out a photographer you may want to book with in the future. Mini-sessions have a lot of benefits!

When should I look out for mini-sessions?
Photographers in the Merrimack Valley/Southern New Hampshire area hold mini-sessions often! The best time to be on the lookout for mini-session opportunities in this area is in the spring when the world turns green again, any special occasions like the Coppal House Farm Sunflower Festival at the end of July, and in late fall when people are starting to think about and take holiday card photos! These times are when you will see the most options for mini-sessions, but always be on the lookout since there isn’t a hard and fast rule about when mini-sessions can happen!

With all this said, I will host sunflower mini-sessions at Coppal House Farm in Lee, NH, on July 28. Their annual sunflower festival is a lot of fun, and your ticket into the sunflower fields includes live entertainment, food, a craft fair, and farm animals! Right now, only the VIPs on my email list can book their spots - one of the perks of being on my email list! You can join the email list HERE! If there are still remaining time slots, booking information will be going out on July 1, so make sure you’re able to book your spot!
