As the colder months inch closer and closer, it becomes a little more tricky to dress for fall outdoor photos. As a southern New Hampshire family photographer, here are some of my favorite ways to warm dress for a family session.

1 SweaterS

Nothing says cozy like a soft sweater! A nice fall-colored sweater looks great with fall foliage and keeps you warm in the crisp southern New Hampshire air. Just make sure the sweater is either thin or shapely. Big, bulky sweaters can make you look bulky in the photos. At the end of the day, wear what makes you feel good!

2 Boots

I love a good boot. Be it cowboy boots, booties, or workboots, they look awesome in photos and keep your toes nice and warm. My boot advice is to pair tall boots like riding boots or cowboy boots with either leggings, tight jeans, or skirts/dresses. Wearing pants that cover the boot can make for some odd shapes!

3 Vests

Vests can look really nice in the fall time. They’re also pretty much a staple of southern New Hampshire fall fashion, so they will make a great addition to your family photos. Just make sure you have a plain colored vest if the shirt has a bold pattern.

4 Long-sleeve shirts and dresses

There are so many gorgeous fall shirts and dresses that would look lovely in your fall photos! Pro tip: wear tights if it’s a short dress or skirt. The weather may not feel too cold, but as you’re standing outside for a long period of time, I can get quite chilly!
