In October 2023, my husband and I said "I do" in a small, intimate backyard ceremony filled with love. While the moment was perfect, we wanted to share this milestone with our extended family and friends. Now, as we approach December 2024, we're thrilled to host a culturally blended celebration that honors both of our families and traditions

Planning a Culturally Blended Wedding Reception
Planning any wedding reception comes with its challenges, but blending English and Spanish-speaking guests and incorporating American and Venezuelan traditions adds an exciting twist. Every detail of our celebration reflects our shared journey, combining elements from both cultures to create a meaningful and unforgettable experience.
One big advantage in our planning process? My mom has been a corporate event planner for 40 years, so we've had expert guidance throughout! While the timeline and venue follow a more traditional American structure, we’ve added unique elements to celebrate my husband Andres’ Venezuelan heritage.

Must-Have Venezuelan Wedding Traditions
Tequeños at Cocktail Hour
A Venezuelan wedding wouldn’t be complete without tequeños! These cheese sticks aren’t your typical mozzarella sticks. The cheese has a distinct Venezuelan flavor, and the doughy wrapping is crispy yet soft. They’re a staple at Venezuelan celebrations, and Andres insisted we include them for our cocktail hour. Though I’m allergic to wheat and dairy and can’t indulge, I know our guests will love them!
La Hora Loca (The Crazy Hour)
Get ready for the craziest part of the evening: La Hora Loca! This vibrant Venezuelan tradition brings out the party spirit, with guests donning fun props like hats, boas, and flashing glasses while dancing to high-energy music.
During this time, we’ll also serve Colombian arepas from Cali Arepas, a nod to the shared culinary heritage of Venezuela and Colombia. Arepas—cornmeal cakes stuffed with delicious fillings—are a must-try, and Cali Arepas makes them just like the Venezuelan ones Andres grew up with.

American Traditions That Mean the World to Us
Father-Daughter Dance
One tradition I’ve always looked forward to is the father-daughter dance. As a child, my dad taught me to slow dance to "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, a memory I cherish deeply. Sharing this moment with my dad at our reception will be a dream come true.
The Perfect Music Mix
Our music will blend English and Spanish songs to keep all our guests entertained. We’ve planned for slow songs during cocktail hour and dinner, so the rest of the evening will be filled with upbeat, danceable tracks that reflect both of our cultures.

A Night to Remember
With family and friends from all walks of life, this celebration is about more than just us—it’s about bringing people together. My mom’s side of the family is full of party animals, and my stepmom’s large, vibrant family knows how to have a great time, too. Between our loved ones and a mix of traditions, this night is shaping up to be the perfect celebration of our love story.
We can’t wait to share this special evening with everyone and celebrate the blending of our cultures, families, and traditions.
