What does "Girasoles" Mean?

I get this question from English-speakers a lot! "Girasoles" is Spanish for "sunflowers!" It comes from combining two words: the verb "girar" meaning to turn, and "sol" meaning sun. When sunflowers bloom, they turn to the sun. I'm bilingual in Spanish and English, and I wanted to incorporate that in my business in some capacity.

Why am I obsessed with sunflowers?

I have always loved sunflowers. I think I'm so drawn to them because of how bright they are. Seeing a sunflower makes me feel happy. They remind me to stand tall in the face of adversity and always look to the sun. In 2019, I even got a tattoo of a sunflower on my arm, and it always reminds me to hold my head high.

Why Did I name my business 'sunflowers?'

To me, sunflowers are a symbol of strength, empowerment, and confidence. They stand tall and shine brightly, which is how I want people to feel about their photos. They are the perfect symbol for how you should feel after one of our photo sessions. Their bright colors are bold, which reminds me of someone who is who they are.

What do sunflower minis mean to me?

The first year I did Sunflower Mini Sessions at Coppal House Farm in Lee, NH, it was just an excuse to go to a sunflower field for the first time ever. I only had a few sessions the first time, so I got to spend a good amount of time in the fields enjoying the festival. Since then, they have become a staple, not just for the aesthetic, but because my love of sunflowers is what created my branding and my mission to empower people through photography.
