One of the most common questions I receive before sessions is, "What should I bring to my session?" Let's look at some of the things you could bring to level up a session. Whether it's a family session, senior portrait, or any other type of photo session, these tips can make your photos even more dynamic and give you more photo options.

Bring a great attitude

This may be cliche, but it is *very* important! While it's important to come into the session with the right attitude, it's equally important to remember that my sessions are all about capturing joyful memories. No one wants to look back on a session and think, “I wish I looked happier in these photos.” So, while life happens, try your best to focus on the fun and excitement of the session. It’s sometimes a challenge to forget things happening in your life, I totally see that! Just try to come to the session in as good of a mood as you could have. This is one way to ensure that you look like you were (and hopefully are) having a great time!

A Second Outfit

Maximizing the time you purchase is key. By taking photos in two outfits, you can make your pictures more diverse and have more photos to print or post! Clients who bring more than one outfit often end up with more photos, as it's almost like a whole second session! And don’t worry, if we are taking photos outside, I have a very roomy portable dressing room that I’ll bring with me!

for kids, bring bribes

Kids aren’t always predictable, and even more so in photo sessions where they may need to be still. Bribes can be a game-changer in getting your kids to take awesome photos. At any age, adults included, we all do a little better when there is some type of reward. So, if you are doing a family session with little ones, bring their favorite toy, candy, snack, color, or anything that may get them to cooperate for photos! Babies tend to do better with something they love, distracting them behind the camera like a toy or puppet! One client event brought an orangutan puppet to keep their baby's attention. You can check that out HERE. Older kids who can understand rewards do well with candy or snacks as their bribes. Whatever you choose, it will absolutely be helpful in getting your little ones to look at the camera and smile!

Any props you may want to showcase

Props are a great tool for more interesting and dynamic photos! Bring something that is special to you or your family. If you play a sport, do band, play the guitar for fun, or have anything else that you want to be represented in your photos, bring it along, and we will find a creative way to use it! For example, if you play football, bring a football or a helmet, and we can take some pictures that represent that part of you!
